Marion AUFSEESSER
To Pee Or
Not To Pee
For more than 10 years, Marion has photographed toilet pictograms during her travels.
Beyond the amusing graphic side, these pictograms also reveal the ongoing struggle for improved intimate hygiene and the recognition of the diversity of the human gender spectrum.
About Marion
To Pee Or Not To Pee is her second book. The story of toilet pictograms around the world, co-written with Guila Clara Kessous, Baudoin Luce and Xavier Casile, co-author and publisher.
Marion is curious by nature and a keen observer of what goes on around her.
ToPeeOrNotToPee was in her mind for a long time. Her meeting Xavier Casile, the founder/ owner of the Geneva based publishing house Goodheidiproduction made the book happen in under a year.
On the threshold of a new era in her life, Marion chooses to remain alert, active, following dreams of publishing more, doing more artistic activities like painting and other forms of art.
Marion calls this her « post professional activities » the term she coined more than 15 years ago when she created and led what others called « retirement preparation programs » . Young then, Marion knew the term wasn’t right for the baby-boomers who luckily often enjoy more than 20-30 years of post career life.
Marion still enjoys working in her area of expertise namely career management and transitions.
She is happy to be able to contribute to this important area with her business partners at TnP together with Guillaume Stollsteiner and his dynamic team.
For over 20 years, Marion Aufseesser has specialized in the domain of career transition and stress crisis management.
Based on her training in neuro-cognitive and behavioural psychology and thanks to her extensive practical experience, Marion shares her knowledge and expertise with her clients in order to enable them to regain their independence, resourcefulness and serenity.
Marion’s aim is to empower and instil her candidates with a positive and dynamic attitude. Therefore, she coaches them and presents the steps to take in order to regain confidence and self-esteem. As a result, candidates get essential ingredients in the search for a new job.
Marion offers a different perspective on this difficult time and knows how to ask the right questions. What if losing your job presented a new opportunity or a new challenge?
Rooted in the present but looking towards the future, the book she wrote (Rebondir, Bouncing back, Making successful career transitions) and method will walk you through your journey.
It is not always easy to let go, to turn the page, but Marion’s positive and realistic approach based on the positive psychology and mindfulness techniques used by experts such as Christophe André, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Lucio Bizzini and Zindel Segal, you will see life’s challenges from a different angle and bounce back with your best foot forward.
Of English mother tongue, born and bred in Africa, Marion Aufseesser lived in Asia and now lives in Switzerland. She has traveled widely. She is fluent is English, German and French and works in all these languages.

Imperial Pee To Pee or not to Pee
Marion’s book, at once funny and sociologically revealing, proves to us that That’s not really the question.
It reminded me of a story I experienced about twenty years ago. At the end of the visit to the Hofburg in Vienna, the guide (mandatory guided tour) shows us the apartments of Empress Elisabeth, her bedroom, her dressing room, her impressive gym with wall bars on which Ihre Kaiserliche Hoheit trained every morning, her magnificent bathroom and, in the final room of the tour, points out to us (no pictogram naturally) a white porcelain toilet bowl adorned with blue figurative motifs (Delft style), specifying that these were the first flush toilets of the Empire (which does not seem entirely accurate but never mind…).
While one senses a thoroughly aristocratic pride before this sanitary feat, a museum director wonders (from a strictly methodological point of view) whether it is really wise to end a visit filled with such majesty with the information, admittedly not surprising but terribly visual, that Sissi also peed.

The Energy of a Gaze
Creating a portrait is always an adventure.
One approaches one’s subject, moves closer still, observes, circles around and finally the magic happens.
Creating the portrait of Marion Aufseesser means seeing the magic happen even before any beginning of approach.
An energy that enters the room and immediately fills the space.
It is a mischievous look behind her red glasses, a lively mind, an overflowing generosity.
An extraordinary personality who, with a wave of a magic wand, transforms a story about public toilets into a fascinating journey through a subject of society.

Inequality in front of toilets!
Inequality in front of toilets! It is undeniable between rich and poor populations, between city and countryside, but also between the sexes.
One only has to observe the intermission at the opera. Lyric works are generally long and the break rather short. In front of the men’s toilets, the line is short and moves quickly. In contrast, in front of the women’s, the queue is long and endless. Architects, often men, probably consider that 4 stalls for men and the same number for women are the sign of a well-thought-out balance. They forget the 5 urinals and the time required for the exercise.
But the highlight of the book is the photos she has taken all over the world. These photos show the desperate efforts of creativity that some display to indicate where these hurried people must go, according to their sex. The thing seemed simple: women on the left, men on the right. The photos sometimes make one smile and, at other times, make one want to cry. This book is a perfect gift when visiting friends.
